About

The El Paso Museum of Art partnered with Hello Amigo, a web development firm, to launch a microsite that offers multi-perspective content on Jeff Koons’ One Ball Total Equilibrium Tank, Richard Prince’s Nurse Elsa, and Robert Gober’s Untitled. The site includes videos with staff, an Art Bridges preparator, audience members, athletes from the University of Texas at El Paso, and art school students. Reflections from docents and teaching artists lead to a pop-up that encourages site visitors to join the conversation by leaving a response. The site also includes an online gallery of student artwork from the museum's art school programs.

Intended Outcome

The El Paso Museum of Art wanted to launch this microsite to expand its reach and provide deeper insight into its artworks and educational content. Although the museum did not have a set viewership goal, its website receives at least 25,000 views per month.

Actual Outcome

This innovative microsite received over 1,000 hits within the first few months of its launch and provided a special focus on contemporary art that had not previously been shown in El Paso.

Advice Post Project

For museums wanting to launch a similar microsite, the El Paso Museum of Art recommends building the site around rich, multi-perspective storytelling and involving community members to humanize the artworks and offer diverse entry points. Such elements will draw greater attention to the microsite, showcase local creativity, and reinforce the museum’s role as a participatory space.
