The Mint Museum’s “Amazing Grace: Stories of African American Courage, Strength, and Resilience” community celebration featured gallery tours, curator talks, music, spoken word, hands-on artmaking, and a response exhibition inspired by Eldzier Cortor’s "Southern Souvenir No. II." Rooted in the museum’s tradition of using art to spark dialogue around difficult topics, the program specifically addressed the impact of violence against Black women and included contributions from local artists, therapists, and community voices. Therapists presented on recognizing, healing, and dealing with trauma, abuse, and human trafficking. Six resident artists created new works in response to the exhibition, led activities, and engaged visitors, while musical performances, personal testimonials, and supportive resources aimed to foster healing, reflection, and community connection in a respectful and accessible environment.
