About

The Westmoreland united with 16 community partners to host a prom-themed dance party, celebrating Pride and highlighting LGBTQIA+ artists in the museum’s collection. The party was hosted by two local drag queens, Alora Chateaux and Tootsie Snyder, and included live musical performances. The event also included special LGBTQIA+ gallery tours and prizes for Best Outfit and Best Dancer.

Intended Outcome

The Westmoreland hoped to expand LGBTQIA+ programming to reach 500 individuals.

Actual Outcome

While The Westmoreland was able to expand its programming, attendance figures did not reach its expectations, with only 150 people attending Pride Prom. However, COVES data during the exhibition run showed 18% of visitors identified as LGBTQIA+, representing an 8% increase compared to overall visitation.

Advice Post Project

If you're planning a Pride Prom at your museum, consider using a post-event survey to measure impact beyond attendance numbers. Even though The Westmoreland had fewer attendees than expected, surveys revealed that 93% of them rated their experience as high or very high quality, with many highlighting the performances, dance party, and sense of community as standout elements. Prioritize creating a safe, celebratory space; your guests will remember how it made them feel.
