About

Three Sisters Garden Day engaged attendees by highlighting their senses of taste, smell, and touch. Program participants learned about the history of the Three Sisters Garden before helping to plant a garden on museum grounds in the Indigenous tradition of the Three Sisters. Participants were also invited to try Indigenous foods and recipes.

Intended Outcome

To attract adult audiences, especially from rural communities.

Actual Outcome

Although attendance was not as far-reaching as hoped, program participants came from both local and rural communities in Somerset County. Attendees were interested in learning more about Indigeneity and Indigenous histories and cultures, and they desired more opportunities like this.

Advice Post Project

Westmoreland found that visitors were very forthcoming with feedback about this program including what they liked and would want to experience again. Consider talking with your visitors while the program is happening about what they are interested in experiencing at the museum and the types of programs they want to attend instead of administering surveys after the fact that may have low completion rates.
