About

The "Hike the HRM" backpack program offered families a self-guided exploration tool that included multidisciplinary materials, such as books, sketchbooks, games, and animal figures. These backpacks facilitated the journey through the museum's galleries, promoting environmental awareness and creative engagement. The program was popular among families with young children and helped attract new visitors to the museum. Based on visitor feedback, the museum plans to create a second version of the backpacks, incorporating lessons learned from the initial implementation.

Intended Outcome

To facilitate self-guided exploration of museum exhibits

Actual Outcome

The program was highly popular, especially among families with young children, and plans are in place to develop a second version of the backpacks.

Advice Post Project

Because this project was so popular, some visitors wanted the option to keep their backpacks or purchase them. Providing this option by having some extra backpacks on hand would allow for this flexibility in visitor engagement.
