About

AMST created a unique, interdisciplinary program to empower local teens through art, financial literacy, and professional development. Teens explored creative expression through workshops in printmaking, collage, bookbinding, and identity-based writing, inspired by the "Native Impressions" exhibition. The program also included art business sessions, culminating in a vendor market where teens sold their work.

Intended Outcome

To provide innovative and relevant programming for at least 200 teens.

Actual Outcome

Not many places in Corpus Christi offer programming for teens, especially safe, creative spaces for them to express themselves. The re-launched, expanded Council remedied this gap by giving 190 teens opportunities to interact and build community with each other outside of school and learn new skills while growing confidence and meeting success through artmaking.

Advice Post Project

Museums should consider partnering with local art teachers and school art clubs to recruit teenaged participants who are already invested in the arts. This strategy not only brings in committed teens but also leverages the power of peer influence, as recommendations from friends and a sense of camaraderie can significantly boost participation. Establishing a teen advisory council provides an essential platform for young participants to share feedback, celebrate program successes, and suggest areas for improvement. By actively listening to teens and making real-time adjustments based on their input, museums can ensure their programs remain relevant, engaging, and responsive to the needs of this audience.
