Brad Kahlhamer
Thin Dead Figure

About

Brad Kahlhamer’s multimedia practice explores what the artist refers to as a “third space”—a fluid and interstitial space that navigates distinct histories. This guiding principle is derived from Kahlhamer’s own lived experience as a Native person adopted and raised in a non-Native environment. Thin Dead Figure conjugates the pictorial vocabularies, personal stories, and art historical legacies that Kahlhamer often contends with through his gestural and neo-expressionist approach to painting, which incorporates graffiti and other icons drawn from the punk subculture of the 1980s.
