About

Visitors could draw, create, and explore how colors affect mood and emotion through interactive touchscreen prompts and other various activities. Once a month, the sensory room was activated alongside an adjoining Makerspace room to combine sensory projects with Makerspace projects, and artwork created by visitors was put on display.

Intended Outcome

To engage visitors through creative expression and experiences with local artists by offering this rare opportunity with little to no barriers

Actual Outcome

Workshops allowed patrons to experience artmaking through experimentation. The library also provided safe spaces for active and emerging artists to work on their craft. This is ongoing work, as the Pueblo City-County Library District has plans to continue engaging this community and activating the space beyond this project.

Advice Post Project

The project was meant to include consultation from an occupational therapist to ensure accessibility elements were well thought out and executed in the sensory room. This consultation was unable to occur, but the library believes it would have strengthened engagement with the space and recommends that those who are interested in implementing something similar prioritize such expertise in the design phase.
