About

This program was a collaboration with the Poughkeepsie City School District and provided weekly art classes led by a local teaching artist. Each session focused on a different artist from the "Silver Linings" exhibition, and the students' artwork was later displayed at The Loeb’s Bring a Friend Day event as well as the school district’s Black History Month Celebration. Despite logistical challenges, the program was successful in building connections with the local community and engaging students in meaningful art experiences.

Intended Outcome

To introduce Poughkeepsie students to African diasporic art and build relationships with the local community

Actual Outcome

The program successfully engaged students and built foundational relationships with local schools despite some logistical challenges with transportation and a need to transition the program to a child-only offering.

Advice Post Project

Flexibility and clear communication are crucial when working with new community partners.
