Fabric Workshop and Museum
Philadelphia, PA
The Fabric Workshop and Museum collaborated with Esperanza, a Philadelphia-based nonprofit organization dedicated to serving Hispanic communities, to develop and execute this workshop. Middle and high school music and art students were led by artist Guillermo Galindo in practicing experimental sound and listening techniques, such as sound walks, and creating screen-printed monoprints. These activities demonstratedinnovative methods of expression integratingmusic, visual art, and bookbinding, and resulted in a personalized handbound music manuscript notebook for each student.

To build new audiences among Latinx students and families through innovative, experimental, and interdisciplinary programming that explores sound
The event effectively built a new audience for the Fabric Workshop and Museum by involving Esperanza’s students in an experience with one of the museum’s exhibitions for the first time. The collaborative nature of the workshop promoted the type of engagement that the museum hopes will entice students and their families to visit again in the future.
Collaboration with community partners is key. By collaborating on program design, execution, and marketing, the Fabric Workshop and Museum successfully engaged new participants and fostered relationships with local Latinx communities, promoting future visits to the museum.
