About

Building on the Oglethorpe Core, the university’s four-year interdisciplinary course sequence, this iteration of the program offered an opportunity for faculty members to incorporate a museum exhibition into their curricula for the first time. Over two days, artists from Contrapunto, an Atlanta-based collective of Latin American artists, led the faculty and selected students through experiences designed to develop skills of artistic and language interpretation.

Intended Outcome

To align the exhibition with Oglethorpe University’s Core curriculum addressing diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives

Actual Outcome

Through this project, Oglethorpe University saw its faculty members incorporate the exhibition into their curricula, allowing students to see themselves more fully reflected in their lessons and in the museum. An unintended outcome was the development of the inaugural Core Self exhibition that showcased artwork made by the workshop participants during their time spent together.

Advice Post Project

Engaging with faculty members to create intentional connections between the gallery and their curricula directly led to more collaboration across university departments. It also brought about an increase in the number of students visiting the museum and gaining an awareness of what it can offer. Building and strengthening such relationships with university faculty is essential to project success.
