For the first time, the Upcountry History Museum offered in-house translation services relating to its exhibition content and educational materials.

About

The Upcountry History Museum focused its audience-building efforts on welcoming Hispanic and Latinx communities to the museum. To increase access, the museum offered bilingual events and documents, including scavenger hunts, family and general visitor exhibition guides, exhibition labels, text panels, and marketing materials.

Intended Outcome

To expand access to the Upcountry History Museum for Spanish-speaking communities 

Actual Outcome

The museum saw a marked increase in Spanish-speaking visitors during the run of the exhibition.

Advice Post Project

Consider offering in-gallery materials and labels in multiple languages to reduce barriers.
