Norman Lewis: Untitled (Subway Station)

Norman Wilfred Lewis, Untitled (Subway Station), 1945. Oil and sand on canvas, 24 × 36 in. Art Bridges Collection.
The Old Jail Art Center (Albany, TX) featured Art Bridges’ Norman Lewis painting, Untitled (Subway Station), as part of their exhibition, Two Worlds: The Reality of Abstraction, From May-August, 2018.
Two Worlds explored Lweis’ work alongside selections from the Old Jail Art Center’s permanent collection. It was a way to explore the balance between works of art that depict reality and those that use abstraction; especially in the mid-twentieth century by Texas artists known as the Fort Worth Circle.
