This group offers a succinct view of the shifting tastes among artists across the second half of the 19th century. The undated oil on canvas by Alfred Thompson Bricher and landscape by William H. Hart are driven by the idealization of pastoral scenes. On the other end of the spectrum, the works by Frederick Mortimer Lamb and Robert Bruce Crane demonstrate the shifting priorities of artists who apprenticed in France and adopted the loaded brush and gestural facture of the Barbizon School.
