About the Artworks

This group of work from the LACMA collection features women artists utilizing experimental techniques to visualize the world in new ways. Through materials and methods such as photograms, combined media, and color printing, these artists explore the aesthetic boundaries and possibilities of their medium. Often relegated to the margins of art history, this selection celebrates women artists working in the mid-twentieth century to the present whose explorations into materiality challenged and expanded the limits of their chosen medium.
