About the Exhibition

This exhibition presents a selection of paintings from LACMA’s collection and will be organized in three sections: The Road to Impressionism at Home and Abroad, which will present the development and exchange that nurtured the iconic style on the western side of the Atlantic; The East Coast: Urban Life and its Escapes, a selection of paintings that reinforce the uncritical treatment of these dichotomous spaces with a focus on instilling an unsullied quiet to both; and California Landscapes, a section which will feature how both East- and West Coast artists treated subjects of the west, primarily through capturing its iconic sun-soaked atmosphere. The exhibition will include approximately 17 paintings and includes works by Mary Cassatt, Childe Hassam, Ernest Lawson, John Henry Twachtman, Guy Rose and William Wendt.
