Through painstaking attention to tone and gradation that translates into richly nuanced swaths of color, White Horse foregrounds the everyday life and beauty of Black Americans. In this work, like many of his others, Robert Peterson depicts the friends and kin that make up his small community in Southeastern Oklahoma. Invoking the style of editorial photography, White Horse features a minimal backdrop, allowing viewers to really focus on the body and personality of his figures.
