Los Angeles (Abstract Blue) belongs to a larger series of works by Kahnawake Mohawk artist Richard Glazer Danay that depicts a bird’s-eye view of the Los Angeles coastline. Over the course of 20 years, Danay returned to the subject, creating the same composition in varying colors and texture. He was dedicated to representing the environment he called home once he moved from New York to Southern California in the 1970s. Place has always played a central role in Danay's practice. He has credited Coney Island in Brooklyn, New York, where he was born and raised, as an important influence on his aesthetic sensibility.
