Teresa Baker (Mandan/Hidatsa) is a contemporary artist exploring the intersection of political, ancestral, and emotional geographies through a practice defined by innovative approaches to textiles. In her work, she blends modern synthetic materials with natural fibers that carry meaningful symbolic associations. From Joy to Joy to Joy was first shown in an eponymous exhibition at de boer gallery in Los Angeles, California, in 2023. It was presented alongside other fiber-based, wall-mounted artworks that similarly skirted the boundary between painting, sculpture, and textile. Resolutely abstract, From Joy to Joy to Joy is reminiscent of the vast landscapes, crisscrossed by boundaries and property lines, in her native South Dakota.
