Isamu Noguchi
Atomic Haystack
From 1982 to 1983, Isamu Noguchi created a series of twenty-six galvanized steel sculptures out of single sheets of metal with Gemini G.E.L. These works were dipped into boiling zinc, forming a surface that resembles pebbles in a stream or the epidermal layer of the skin. As the sculptures continue to age, they will develop a patina, embodying Noguchi’s belief that human bodies, natural cycles, and even abstract concepts are susceptible to change.
