About Art Bridges

Art Bridges is the vision of philanthropist and arts patron Alice Walton. The mission of Art Bridges is to expand access to American art in all regions across the United States. Since 2017, Art Bridges has been creating and supporting programs that bring outstanding works of American art out of storage and into communities. Art Bridges partners with a growing network of nearly 170 museums of all sizes and locations to provide financial and strategic support for exhibition development, loans from the Art Bridges collection, and programs designed to educate, inspire, and deepen engagement with local audiences. The Art Bridges Collection represents an expanding vision of American art from the 19th century to present day and encompasses multiple media and voices.

What you will do

You’ll join a top-notch team focused on serving Art Bridges partner institutions across the country. As the Strategy and Operations Director, you will work closely with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to help implement the operational and financial aspects of Art Bridges consistent with its strategic vision. The successful candidate will be a strategic thinker who has the ability to proactively anticipate issues and opportunities and recommend value-added solutions. This will involve establishing and evolving Art Bridge’s processes in support of building a more collaborative, impactful, and data-driven organization. The Director will provide flexible capacity to manage projects, develop and implement new processes, and liaise with Art and Wellness Enterprises (AWE) to optimally leverage the network of resources for Art Bridges.

Core Areas of Responsibility

  • Team & Eco-System Management:
    • Act as a project manager for the CEO, while maintaining proactive and cohesive communication to ensure seamless operations and reporting. Work with the CEO on special projects as assigned
    • Liaise with and/or manage advisors, vendors and partners (including museum partner relationships, accountants, consultants, and systems and technology service providers) and proactively coordinate with all to ensure that needs and objectives are met
    • Responsible for managing a team
  • Office and infrastructure:
    • Provide leadership in adapting physical office as needed to accommodate team growth and evolving work environment
  • Culture:
    • Help continually adapt Art Bridge’s use of meetings to best meet the needs of the team while being efficient and effective with its time
  • Annual Planning & Organizational Reporting:
    • Work closely with the CEO and the CFO on the annual planning process, including development of an annual operating budget and organization-wide, strategic objectives
    • Manage the quarterly operating budget-to-actual reports, and help develop and manage spending forecasts; strategically interpret financial information and data to facilitate decision making
    • Partner with the eco-system’s financial resources on financial analyses, modeling, projections and ad hoc analyses / projects / initiatives
    • Manage selection and roll-out of any new technology systems with support from either an external vendor or family office technology team

Strategic Initiatives & Innovation:

    • Provide leadership and execution capacity on strategic, point in time initiatives within Art Bridges
    • Execute and track progress against organization-wide initiatives and goals

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Robust professional experience as an operations leader
  • Significant experience in systems development and vendor selection and management
  • Excellent project management skills and structured thinking skills
  • Financial reporting and presentation skills
  • Supervisory experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy
