Art Bridges is the vision of philanthropist and arts patron Alice Walton. The mission of Art Bridges is to expand access to American art in all regions across the United States. Since 2017, Art Bridges has been creating and supporting programs that bring outstanding works of American art out of storage and into communities. Art Bridges partners with a growing network of nearly 170 museums of all sizes and locations to provide financial and strategic support for exhibition development, loans from the Art Bridges collection, and programs designed to educate, inspire, and deepen engagement with local audiences. The Art Bridges Collection represents an expanding vision of American art from the 19th century to present day and encompasses multiple media and voices.

Internship Summary: 

The Administration department and ACELE division seeks one intern for the 2022-2023 academic year to work cross-departmentally. The internship will span fall 2022 and spring 2023 semesters. The intern will assist both departments in the development and administration of the foundation. 

This internship will provide experiential learning that aligns with the knowledge and theories taught to students in the classroom, with practical application and skills development in a professional setting. Learning will be guided and evaluated by experienced professionals. This intern should be prepared to work in a fast-paced team environment and will finish the internship having gained broad experience in various aspects of foundation administration as well as award funding, partner services and support, project reporting and learning and engagement practices.

Activities and Learning Experiences will include:

  • Entering and auditing museum partner data in software systems
  • Auditing and data entry of project funding, final reports and modification forms
  • Museum partner services and support
  • Organizing and researching partner program information
  • Assisting our team with uploading and tagging partner assets in our data asset management system (MediaValet)
  • Creating lists and reports as needed
  • Responding to partner inquiries
  • Participating in meetings as requested
  • Basic administrative work: data entry, scheduling, errands, team support tasks
  • Participate in Art Bridges Speaker Series, departmental projects, software training, intern meetings

Preferred candidates will be passionate about expanding access to art with skills in critical thinking, problem-solving, research, communications, writing, and building interpersonal relationships. The intern should possess intellectual curiosity, flexibility, and openness to give and receive feedback. They will be interested in American art, community engagement, social justice, and diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion (DEAI). Applicants must be prepared for a hands-on learning experience. The intern will have the opportunity to work with diverse partners, listen, ask questions, adapt, and collaborate.

This 24-week internship will take place during fall 2022 from Aug 29-Nov 18, 2022 and resume for spring 2023 from Jan 23-Apr 14, 2023. The intern will work 10-15 hours per week as determined by the supervisor and will be paid hourly.

Minimum Attributes of an Ideal Candidate: 

  • Hold a GPA of 3.0 or above
  • Detail-oriented and organized
  • Good sense of humor
  • Must be a people-person
  • Dependable and punctual
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite is required, and familiarity with research and Web-based search tools is strongly preferred

      Internship Compensation: 

      $14/hr and/or course credit

      • Physical Demands: In the work environment described herein, the position requires work at a desk and utilizing a computer for prolonged periods of time, and excellent eye/hand coordination. Visual acuity to review detailed drawings and written materials are required for this job.

      • Computer Equipment: Interns will use their own laptops. If you are in need of a laptop to complete your work, one may be provided to you.

      • Credits: Possible course credit can be negotiated with university departmental supervisor

          Other Information: 

          While this internship provides an opportunity to demonstrate your knowledge, skills and ability, it does not create any expressed or implied guarantee of future employment with Art Bridges. 

          All interns will be considered temporary employees and responsible for all state and federal withholdings from all earnings and payments. Interns will be ineligible for health & retirement benefits, but will be covered under workers compensation insurance during the internship duration and while performing activities for Art Bridges.

          Vaccination Policy: 

          In accordance with our duty to provide and maintain a workplace that is free of known hazards, and to do our part in safeguarding the health of our co-workers and their families as well as the community at large from this infectious disease that will be reduced by vaccination, we are requiring all Art Bridges staff and interns to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by their start date. As of March 1, 2022, to be considered “fully vaccinated” by our organizations, you must receive a booster. If you are not eligible by this deadline, you must be boosted when eligible. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), a person is considered “boosted” and up to date the same day as receiving their booster dose. Documentation of your booster will be required.

          In accordance with all federal, state and local rules and regulations, Art Bridges recognizes that there may be certain circumstances exempting an employee from receiving the COVID-19 vaccine and associated booster vaccinations. Interns in need of an exemption from this policy due to a disability, advice of a medical provider, or religious beliefs inconsistent with vaccination, must contact the HR group at AWE to initiate the interactive review process within the deadlines expressed in this policy.
